Romans 12: 1-8 (NKJV)

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. 3For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. 4For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, 5so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. 6Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; 7or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; 8he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

The dictionary defines sacrifice as the act of giving up something highly valued for the sake of one considered of a greater value or claim. In this state, everything else is considered as inconsequential when compared to the value placed on one’s relationship with his maker. God is pleased when we who profess love for Him reset our priorities to accord Him the position He deserves in our lives. Verse 2 calls for a change of mind-set as we feed on the Word of life and allow the light therefrom to direct our lives accordingly. This will protect us from being overrun by the world and make our lives pleasing to God.

Speaking from his personal experience of God’s grace, Paul urges every believer to strive to identify, develop and use whatever special gift one has received from God for the overall benefit of the body of Christ. You are not permitted to sit aloof in the Church and wait to be fed always. One sure way to conduct oneself as a living sacrifice unto God is to strive to become relevant in the business of the Kingdom.

Prayer: Dear Lord, today I yield my life afresh to You and ask that You help me to live to please You every day, in Jesus name.
