COLOSSIANS 4:2-6 (NKJV)

Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving; 3meanwhile praying also for us, that God would open to us a door for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in chains, 4that I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak. 5Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. 6Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.

When a Christian does not pray enough; he has less power with God and will not have the optimum divine connection he needs for life. Prayer is a vital spiritual exercise to keep a Christian alert and fresh in the Spirit. Our Lord Jesus Christ prayed all through His life and ministry, and has set us an example to follow. One thing we should remember is that the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man has great effect or result (James 5:16)

The first requirement for effective prayer is for a sinner to repent of his sins and be regenerated or born again. It is the Holy Spirit in a Christian who makes intercession with groaning powerful and effective. Fasting, worshipping with a life of holiness will also facilitate an effective prayer life. When we pray, we are to stand in for not only our interests but for those of others. Paul has encouraged that we pray for ministers that they will speak the whole oracle of God. Remember prayer helps us to stop sinning while sinning will ultimately stop us from praying.

PRAYER: Lord, teach me to pray ceaselessly in Jesus name. Amen.
