Day 2 of the Second Session of The 30th Synod

The Second day of the second session of the 30th Synod commenced gloriously with a Holy Communion Service at 8.00a.m followed by a Bible Study. The opening ceremonies which commenced at 10.00a.m had many church and State dignitaries in attendance, including the

executive Governor of Lagos state, His Excellency, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola who was accompanied by the Commissioner for Establishment and Training, Hon. Jide Sanwoolu, who was also a delegate to the Synod from one of the Churches in the Diocese.

Also present were Bishops from the Dioceses of Ideato, Rt. Revd Caleb Maduoma, Badagry. Rt. Revd B.J. Adeyemi, Ijebu North- Rt Revd S. G. Kuponu, Ife – Rt Revd Ranti Odubogun, Ifo Missionary Diocese – Rt Revd J. Akin Odejide, Ajayi Crowther – Rt Revd O.O. Oduntan, Lagos Mainland –Rt. Revd Adebayo D. Akinde,

The Chancellor Justice Oguntade, Governor of Lagos State Fashola and The Archnishop,
the Bishop elect for the Missionary Diocese of Awori – Ven J. Akin Atere, the Retired Bishop of Lagos and primate of All Nigeria – Most Revd Dr. Joseph Abiodun Adetiloye, CON, representatives of other Bishops and many other dignitaries.

In a 95 page well written and eloquently delivered presidential address which took a little over two hours, the president of Synod, Diocesan Bishop and Archbishop, His Grace Most Revd Dr. Ephraim Adebola Ademowo, OON dwell on issues ranging from appreciation to the Federal and State governments, delegates and appointees, opening service preacher, etc.

He also dwelt extensively on the Synod theme ‘’Upholding the Faith once delivered to the Saints’’ and concluded that the word of God must be our authority at all times as Christians.

Comments were also made on the nation, particularly in the area of security, banking, Medicine, Education, Culture, etc from where he proceeded to talk on the beloved state of Lagos. He acknowdged the very many areas of visible positive changes in the state as well as efforts at dealing with the problem areas in the state.

The Church of Nigeria was also covered. Archbishop Ademowo acknowledge the efforts of the primate of All Nigeria, Most Revd Peter Jasper Akinola, CON, DD in the many areas of interest of the Church including the convocation of Churches in North America (CANA) which had four Suffragan Bishops ordained for it since the last Synod as well as the Global Anglican future conference (GAFCON) aimed at dealing with the Revisionist agenda among many other activities.

The climax of the presidential address was the preferment of four Priest from the level of Revd canons to Venerable and five from Reverend to Rev. Canons. They were Ven. Adebiyi Gbadebo, Ven Sonny Nwakerendu, Ven. Oluseyi Pirisola and Ven Emmanuel Oludare Otoki. The others were Revd Canons John O. Agboro, Babatunde E. Sorinwa, William Rotimi Mehinsan, Nkem N. Ezediaro and Ebenezer Olufolahan Olubajo. This was in accordance with the Episcopal right of Bishops.
