Lagos Diocese holds the 3rd Session Of The 30th Synod

The third session of the 30th Synod of the 90 years old premier Diocese of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion).  The Diocese of Lagos began with a very colourful service on Sunday, 3rd May, 2009 at the Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina, Lagos.   In service was presided by the Diocesan Bishop of Lagos and Archbishop Ecclesiastical Province of Lagos, His Grace, The Most Revd. Dr. Ephraim Adebola Ademowo, FNAL, OON.

In the Synod sermon delivered by the Lord Bishop of Awori Anglican Diocese, the Rt. Revd. Johnson Akin Atere, he called on all Anglican’s in the Diocese to pay closer attention to the activities of the Holy Spirit in this generation.  Speaking on the Synod theme “TRANSFORMATION AND ANGLICAN CHARISMATIC RENEWAL – THE CHALLENGE OF ANGLICAN PENTECOSTALISM” he corrected the often erroneous ascription of Pentecostal to a group of Churches but informed that Pentecost has to do with the Holy Spirit “Any Service led by the priest in the power of the Holy Spirit is a Pentecostal Service”.  He called on all to stop searching for Salvation where non exist but rather to hold on firmly to the  truth and the manifestation of His power to all men through the Holy Spirit as he promised in Joel 2:28.

Many dignitaries from within and outside the Church attended the very colorful service including the Bishop of Lagos Mainland, Ife, Ifo, Oru and Awori Anglican Dioceses; the Rt. Revd, A.D. Akinde, the Rt. Revd. ‘Ranti Odebogun, the Rt. Revd, J. Akin Odejide, the Rt. Revd, G.N. Chukwunenye and the Rt. Revd, J. Akin Atere respectively.  Also present were the legal officers of the Dioceses of Lagos and Lagos Mainland led by the respective Chancellors, The Hon. Justice G.A. Oguntade, JSC and the Hon. Justice Adesalu.  Also present was the Lagos State Government team led by the Deputy Governor, Princess Sarah Adebisi Sosan who was represented by one of the Special Assistants to the Governor, Mrs. Yetunde Akinluyi who read the first lesson at the service.

The service was brought to a fitting and spiritually charged close with a powerful Holy Spirit led intercession through the president of Synod, Diocesan Bishop and Archbishop of Lagos, Most Revd. Dr. E. Adebola Ademowo.
