and to the disciple, "Here is your mother." From that time on, this disciple took her into his home. John 19: 27

Today, we heartily greet all our women on this their day of glory.  As we rejoice over another year, let us give praise to our ever-loving Father.  On a day like this, it is important to remind ourselves of the purpose for which God created the woman.  The Creator saw in man a lack, a need and a gap.  He therefore created a refined being to meet these and other needs.  She is a help meet suitable or appropriate for man.  She is to enhance him, compliment him and be his companion.  Together, they are to fulfill God s purpose for them in His world.

God has set out responsibilities for those He has placed to manage His world. For the woman, He expects a lot and for that reason, He was packed with so much energy and resources into her frail-looking frame.  As demonstrated in the concluding verses of Proverbs, the woman is created to be an asset to her husband, a model in industry, an entrepreneur, a wise and careful investor, an energetic and hard worker, a careful planner and a goal-getter. Having been thus endowed, the Creator has placed the management of the home on her laps.  In this area, the husband depends on her and the society expects much from her.  When she succeeds, her husband gets respected in the committee of the elders and she spreads joy around.

One disciple that was very dear to Paul s heart was Timothy.  Though of a mixed background, the mother s influence on him was remarkable.  Both the mother and grandmother were women of faith.  His father, being a Greek notwithstanding, these women impacted positively and significantly on him.  Paul was therefore able to speak of the family background with confidence (2 Timothy 1: 3).  His therefore remains a most enduring recommendation for family life, being a third generation ambassador of Christ after Lois, his grandmother and Eunice, his mother.

God has graciously entrusted you with a life or lives to be nurtured for Him and His church.  Can you afford to fail Him?  Remember that a hundred years from now, no one will remember the type of lace you wore regularly to the church, nor the type of car you used.  No one will remember that your husband was not as loving and caring as you would have wished.  No one would remember what type of work you engaged in.  What will matter then is the type of children biological, spiritual or social that you left behind!  Will they rise to call you blessed or will your daughters, while having problems with their marriages, lament the fact that you did not teach them how to cook?

Prayer: Father grant me the grace not to fail You with the responsibility You have given to me.
